Which Portable Monitor Can Be Powered by a Phone?
A USB-C portable monitor such as the ASUS ZenScreen MB16ACV can take both power and video from a phone over one cable, but only if the phone sends video over USB-C, and it drains the phone, so a monitor with its own battery, like the INNOCN PU15-Pre, is the safer pick.

Which portable monitor can be powered by a phone?
Any portable monitor that takes power and video over a single USB-C cable can, in principle, run from a phone, and the ASUS ZenScreen MB16ACV is a clear example. ASUS’s Amazon listing says the MB16ACV supports USB-C Power Delivery so one cable provides both power and video, and lists laptops, PCs, phones and game consoles as compatible devices. It listed at $149.00 on October 14, 2026. The catch is that, without a charger in the chain, the screen’s power has to come from the phone’s own battery. That is fine for a presentation or a short movie on a train, but for a whole workday you will want either a monitor with its own battery or a charger feeding power into the setup.
Which phones can send video to a portable monitor?
The phone has to output video through its USB-C port, and not every phone does. Apple’s support page on the iPhone USB-C connector says iPhone 15 models, iPhone 16 models except the iPhone 16e, iPhone 17 models except the iPhone 17e, and iPhone 18 Pro models can connect to external displays through USB-C to show video, photos and more on a larger screen. iPhones with a Lightning port need an adapter instead. On Android, support varies from model to model, so check your phone maker’s specifications for video output over USB-C, sometimes called DisplayPort Alternate Mode, before you buy a monitor. If the phone cannot send video, no monitor can fix that.
Why buy a portable monitor with its own battery?
A built-in battery means the screen does not borrow power from your phone. INNOCN’s Amazon listing says its PU15-Pre 15.6-inch 4K OLED touchscreen monitor has a built-in 5,000mAh battery that delivers up to four hours of use on a full charge, and that it is 0.27 inches thin and weighs about two pounds. The same listing says it works with phones as well as laptops, cameras and game consoles over USB-C or mini HDMI. With the monitor running on its own battery, your phone only has to send the picture, so it lasts much longer away from an outlet. The PU15-Pre listed at $299.99 on October 14, 2026. It costs more than a basic screen, but it is the setup that suits a commute or a long flight.
Can a portable monitor charge the phone instead?
Yes, if the monitor supports two-way USB-C power and you plug a charger into it. ViewSonic’s Amazon listing for the VX1655-4K-OLED says its single-cable USB-C connection provides 60 watts of two-way power, enough to keep a laptop or mobile device charged while it extends your screen. The ViewSonic TD1655 listing also describes two-way USB-C power of up to 60 watts. In that setup a wall charger powers the monitor, and ViewSonic says the connected device stays charged instead of draining. This is the best arrangement at a desk, in a hotel room or anywhere with an outlet. It needs a USB-C charger strong enough for both devices, so check the wattage your monitor maker recommends before you rely on it.
