How To Choose

  • Measure the counter space before comparing features.
  • Decide whether you need one cup or a full pot most mornings.
  • Check cleanup steps; compact machines can still be annoying to maintain.
  • Avoid bulky machines if they will live under low cabinets.

Questions Shoppers Ask

What type of coffee maker is best for small kitchens?

Compact drip, single-serve, and pour-over setups are the first options to compare.

Should I buy espresso for a small kitchen?

Only if espresso drinks matter more than counter space, budget, and easy cleanup.

Where should I compare models?

Start with The Great Reviewer’s coffee maker ranking.

Which coffee machine takes the least counter width?

Among the machines whose Amazon listing states a width, the De’Longhi Dedica is the narrowest at 6 inches, with a 15-bar pump and a manual frother, at $218.99. The Breville Bambino Plus is 7.7 inches wide at $399.95 (prices read October 13, 2026 in our espresso guide). Our write-up of the Breville Bambino ($249.95) lists no width. We hold no width figure for the drip brewers in our coffee maker table, which lists capacity instead: 40 oz for the Technivorm Moccamaster KBGV Select and 60 oz for the Cuisinart DCC-12, Ninja CE251 and Hamilton Beach 49465R. Check a listing’s dimensions against your cabinet clearance before ordering.

Is drip cheaper than espresso for a small kitchen?

On October 13, 2026 our coffee guide read these Amazon prices: Hamilton Beach 12-Cup 49465R at $49.99, Cuisinart DCC-12 at $79.95 and Ninja CE251 at $89.99. On the same day Amazon listed the De’Longhi Stilosa, the lowest-priced machine in our espresso guide, at $139.95 and the Breville Bambino at $249.95. The Bambino needs a separate grinder, which adds cost and a second item on the counter. The Breville Barista Express ($499.95) has a built-in grinder. For a small kitchen on a budget, the cheapest 12-cup drip brewer here costs about a third as much as the cheapest espresso machine. The guide lists brew temperatures of 196 to 205°F for the Moccamaster, 195 to 205°F for the Ninja and 195 to 200°F for the Hamilton Beach; the Cuisinart’s is not listed.

Does a small-kitchen coffee maker need SCA certification?

No, but it is a checkable signal. The Specialty Coffee Association publishes the home brewers that pass its certification. On October 13, 2026 our coffee maker guide matched three of its eight machines to that list: the Technivorm Moccamaster KBGV Select ($365.96, certified 2026), the Breville Luxe Brewer Thermal ($349.95, 2025) and the Fellow Aiden Precision ($399.95, 2024). The Cuisinart DCC-12 ($79.95), Ninja CE251 ($89.99) and Hamilton Beach 49465R ($49.99) show a dash, which means not found on the page we read, not that they failed. Inclusion in a guide does not mean a brewer is certified. The SCA publishes its list at sca.coffee/certified-home-brewer, so you can check a model yourself.
